Maldivian heritage can be explored through published stories, photographs and recorded reigns. The Maldives Chronicle provides these formats as separate reading experiences. Start with a specific question, then inspect the available information and sources. Do not infer a complete national archive or royal genealogy from the presence of an archive or timeline page.

Timeline, photographs and Long Investigations

Filter kings and queens by dynasty

The kings and queens timeline displays published ruler entries. Open Filter to choose a dynasty and select All, Kings or Queens. The choices combine, so readers can focus on queens within one entered dynasty rather than scrolling through every loaded ruler. Dynasty options come from the published data; they are not a prefilled historical list. Active filters, result counts and Clear all make the selection visible. On phones, the filter controls open in a bottom panel with a button to show matching results.

Swipe horizontally on mobile, scroll with a mouse or trackpad, or use the scrolling buttons. Arrow keys work when the timeline region has focus. Select a card to expand its description. Each entry can display its name, title, dynasty, recorded reign start and end, and an optional portrait. Reign dates are not birth and death dates. A missing date is unknown; a missing reign end does not imply an ongoing reign. Entries depend on information supplied through the CMS, and the collection should not be assumed complete. The timeline does not provide historical map overlays, period zoom, genealogical relationships or automatic source verification.

Browse a standalone photo archive

The photo archive presents published photographs in a medium-sized grid: three columns from tablet widths upward and two columns on phones. Filter by available period, location, subject and source values. Options are derived from the loaded photographs, and selections can be combined or cleared. Select a photograph to open the enlarged view with its available title, date taken, location, subject, source and period.

Missing metadata remains a gap, not an invitation to invent a date or location. A period filter uses entered labels rather than a date-range search. Check the stated source and applicable permission before reusing an image; displaying a photograph does not grant republication rights.

Find Long Investigations on the homepage

The homepage separates Leading Articles, Long Investigations and Essays & Long Reads. Long Investigations selects investigative-type articles, ordered by reading time, longest first. Feature-only items do not qualify just because they are features. There is no minimum reading-time threshold in the current selection logic. The section shows a lead article and up to two additional cards, using the same shared card sizing and grid proportions as Leading Articles. If no investigation is available, it displays an empty state.

Open an article to read its argument and inspect sources and references when supplied. Citation markers can link to references, but support for references does not prove every story has been independently reviewed. Essays are a separate article type, not automatically investigations.

Homepage search matches article titles, summaries, authors and categories with case-insensitive text matching. It is not Boolean, semantic, scanned-document or date-range search, and it does not search photo metadata or ruler records. Those collections have separate filters. Bookmarks are stored in the current browser, not synchronized reader accounts or personalized feeds. Sharing uses the available browser or device behavior and article links.

A filter result describes the loaded collection, not all Maldivian history. Keep your own notes on sources and unknown details, and distinguish a published summary from original evidence. For publication information use the About page; for published contact details use the Contact page.

Yes. Choose a dynasty present in the published timeline and select Queens. The filters apply together; clear a selection to broaden the results.

Does a missing reign end mean an ongoing reign?

No. A missing end is unknown information, not an ongoing-reign claim.

Are photo metadata and references automatic guarantees?

No. They display supplied information. Inspect attribution and supporting evidence before drawing a conclusion.
